The Hottest Topic – When Is A Plymouth Not A Plymouth?

We love our old cars.

We want you to join us. We encourage you to drive your Plymouth, Dodge, or any Chrysler product to our Regional events and activities – authentic or not.

Below is an excerpt from the Dec 2014 Plymouth National Bulletin concerning participation of authentic Plymouths, non-authentic Plymouths and non-Plymouths in Region activities.

Before summarizing the Colonial Region past and present practice note the following:

  1. Parts of Connecticut (with Mass. close behind) have some of the nation’s worst traffic (Honolulu gets that dubious honor) in and around it’s highly populated areas
  2. Connecticut (with Mass close behind) ranks in the nation’s bottom third for worst drivers based on fatal crashes, car thefts, average commute times, & insurance premiums.
  3. New England winter weather & road conditions can be challenging

How are these facts related to the issue of car participation in Colonial Region activities?

Members who have spent any time traveling in the Region to our year round activities will willingly share their experiences driving a decades old car under these conditions. WhIle the events and activities are fun, driving to or in them can be harrowing. We believe the solution is to adapt to the conditions and make respectful modifications to ensure safety of participants and our cars.

The Colonial Region Past And Present Practice on participation at region activities

As long as judging is not occurring, any region activity may have members or guests drive any car whether Plymouth or otherwise. The Colonial Region position is to encourage it’s members to bring their authentic or non-authentic Plymouth when possible to activities.

Region members who have regularly attended region activities have discussed this practice and most feel we should continue to do so in order to increase participation and interest year round among members.

The Colonial Region Present Position on participation at meets

The Colonial Region has made known their position on admitting modified cars to meets.   We would like to see some modifications allowed.  This would require judging rules changes.   Since the National Board is not in favor of those changes at this time, we would like to encourage other changes which would encourage more younger members.  As long as judging is not occurring, we support including all Plymouth cars at tours, meets, and club activities.  The Colonial Region encourages it’s  members to bring authentic and non-authentic cars whenever possible to all club functions.  Most Colonial Region members feel any Chrysler product is acceptable  and would be welcome as a member.
