May Meet Thompson Speedway on Saturday May 14 put our Plymouths & Dodges in with a Rambler contingent early in the morning at Thompson Speedway. Descriptions of the Speedway and it’s events can be found at: http://www.thompsonspeedway.com/
The facility layout contains not only the track but many buildings supporting the track and golfing functions:
After signing in we setup on the field and later went for lunch at the clubhouse restaurant. Just after noon time we headed out on the track. It appears we were setup near clubhouse turn.
Our photo’s tell the story better than words:
Lining up at Thompson Speedway Entrance was our staging area where we got our wristbands, pamphlets, and information on our next pit stop:
Grouped together on the Field were the Dodges, Plymouths, and Ramblers; there were other classics as well including cobra, corvette, olds 442, dodge superbee, ford fairlane, chevelle, as well as others :
Trucks and Cars mix it up on the Field so there was plenty of variety that caught the interest of the passerby enthusiast who were at the speedway to see and hear the vintage racers running thru the course early in the morning:
One Plymouth got some brake work while on the Field which including rodding out the master cylinder compensating port to relieve built up pressure in the brake line as well as some troubleshooting of the generator cutout relay that had the points sticking which caused the battery to discharge into the generator:
Show Winner lines up first for lapping the Track which occurred after voting elected Jim Dunlea Dodge truck as the favorite in the group:
Track line gets longer as each car and truck pulls In behind the Show Winner prior to heading out into the track for the three laps around the stock car oval behind the pace car:
Making the way onto the Track took us past vintage racers waiting to make runs on the course:
Rounding the turn out on the Track gave us an opportunity to catch some of the cars and trucks following the lead pace car around the course:
Photo shoot out on the track gave Jim’s red dodge truck an opportunity to “load up” and stumble a bit while positioning but Jim managed to work thru it all without hardly anyone noticing:
Someone always needs to get into the picture where skid marks of the vintage racers were present on the course asphalt:
After a bit of work on one of the 30’s Plymouth it started with the help of a push by the Plymouth club members and headed home without further issues!
Our May Meet Thompson Speedway was a great success thanks to the planning efforts of the Nichols including an excellent weather day (how did they do that?)!!
