The Aug 2023 President Message is as follows:
I’m glad to see the end of July and I certainly hope August isn’t as hot and humid. That weather is not comfortable or safe for car shows. More cars will need air conditioning as the heating increases and these old antiques and classics don’t have any. The humidity is the worst and makes inside venues more attractive in the summer, unless it’s a water park or sky diving and boating. So far, August is not as hot, but lots of rain. Tomatoes in the garden hate all the rain.
Our August meeting will be on Sunday the 27th (last week of August) , at the Village Haven in Forestdale. RI. Bob Cook has arranged a fun meet. We can meet at his house at 11:15 to caravan to Village Haven . It’s about a 20-30 minute drive. He will be driving his 1948 Plymouth. His address is 175 Putnam Hill Rd in Sutton, Ma. Or if you prefer, you can meet us at the Village Haven, 90 School St., Forestdale, RI. Dinner at noon. The restaurant is family style. Price is $16.95 for all you can eat. Questions ? call Bob 508-450- 6111(cell).
The Colonial Region is floundering. We have a very limited number of active members attending meetings and volunteering to put on a meeting ,event, or activity. Because of the long distance between members homes, it’s hard to drive the old vehicles to meetings or events. We have 25 families in the club. Of those, 9 are active and participate, and 1 does most of the planning and organizing (mostly Jane Palmer). Most of the activities have been in the western half of the state because that’s where the active members live. Trying to plan activities for all the meetings gets tiresome. Thus we are starting to skip some months. That isn’t really a good way to keep a club active. I know we have Mopar owners in the eastern part of the state and hope someone will step up and keep this club going. 2024 is the Colonial Region 50th Anniversary. Can we still be a viable club?
Don has been doing a complete service of his 1957 Plymouth Fury . It hadn’t been done since 1989. At 84 that’s a big job and he finally finished and got his inspection sticker. He had a little family help luckily.
There are multiple events in September. The Millbury Lions Club Show on September 2 at the Hebert Candy Factory in Shrewsbury, The HVFD show on Sat. Sept 9 at IOKA Valley Farm in Hancock, MA. , and our POC event on September 24 at the Fly-In Car Show and Food Truck Festival in Simsbury, CT. October has dual activities. The Bruce Nichols Memorial Show at the Waters Farm and a visit to the Purgatory Chasm State Park in Sutton, Ma , both on October 15th. Most members have opted for the Chasm. I’m sure there are more shows on our web site. Plus- it’s the P15 annual tour in September.
