The September meeting at the Brookfield Orchard didn’t go exactly as planned.  Don & Jane Palmer with their ’65 Dodge Dart, Carlos and Kathy Heilligman with their ’47 Desoto, Tom Dorward with his ’47 Plymouth (in the garage), and Rod & Jean Gough (prospective members) with their ’65 Plymouth Belvedere met up with Bruce & Judi Nichols in their ’46 P15 club coupe in Spencer, but promptly got separated.   The Nichols were having serious car trouble, the Whitmans met at the orchard after several wrong turns, and the remaining cars straggled in.  Upon arrival, the place was overflowing with cars, people, long lines for everything, lots of youngsters, and little social distancing.  After viewing the situation, the group decision was to find another place to meet.  Tom Dorward offered the yard of his parent’s summer camp, not far from there.  Well, he wasn’t quite sure how to get there, so GPS took us to a closed road with the bridge out.  The actual drive was quite a bit further.  We had a short meeting and decided indoor meetings were not safe this year.  A road tour in October was suggested, then no meetings until next year.  The Nichols stayed at the orchard longer before they attempted the trip home.  Sounds like Bruce has another project.  We all missed the warm apple pie.

The Plymouth 400 celebration scheduled a parade and tour in September and many of the P15 owners were planning on attending.  Since the events were cancelled, several of those owners decided to take a weekend road trip to the Berkshires. Don and I didn’t know about it, but were informed by the local motel owner that   7 Plymouths were registered there that weekend.  Don and I checked it out, wondering if it was the same group the Hudson Valley Club had invited us to join going to Plymouth, Mass.   When we arrived at the motel, Don said he recognized the blue and white ’49 convertible as Richard Wahrendorff’s.  We knocked on the room door, and Richard appeared, looking very surprised.  He had no idea he was staying 3 miles from our house.  We met several of the other owners but only knew Richard from a previous tour through the Catskill State Park with their club last year.  This group had cars from 1946 – 1951. (3 from NY, 2 from NH, and 2 from MA.)  HudsonValleyRegionTourInPresidentOct2020Message

No modern cars.  The group’s organizer lives in Syracuse, NY.

Our last get together of the year is a road tour to New Salem, MA., at the northern end of the Quabbin.  The scenery should be beautiful.   Jane has put together a neat lunch stop.  Don’t miss this drive, but bring a dependable vehicle.   The date is Sunday October 18.  Details are on the event page. You must pre-order lunch for pick up at 11:30 or bring your own.  No grills allowed because of the RED FLAGG fire warning. It will be curbside pickup and pay your own.
