Sept 2019 Event
September 15, 2019
Event Navigation
The Sept 2019 Event is as follows:
At Jim and Qin’s farm at 30 Pulpit Rock Rd., Woodstock, CT on Sept. 15. Please bring a dish to share, plus your lawn chair.
Where / When; Sept 15, 2019; Jim + Qin’s farm, Woodstock CT. Time: Arrive at noon. We will plan to eat promptly at noon. This will leave time for activities.
What: Pot Luck Cookout ! Jim and Qin will provide the grill, as well as beverages, eating utensils, etc. We would love to try food from others, and you’all can bring the food and deserts. I recall the sweet cucumber salad that Betty K used to make… that was delicious. So think leafy salads, pasta salads, cucumber salad, etc.
Note: Let Jim + Qin know by Sept 11 (617-653-6412 or 857-498-5000) if you are coming (so we can plan enough food) and if you plan to bring something. Note… not everyone needs to bring something… or as usual, we wind up with way too much food ! So 1st few that offer to bring something will be great.. others after that we will let you know we likely already have too much food coming already.
Activities: We have a number of activities in mind. 1). Tour of the Roseland Cottage. This is a really cool historic Victorian summer home that provides tours of the home and gardens. Quite nice. About a 6 minute drive from the farm. There is an admission charge. I think it is $10, but we will look into a group rate. 2). If time permits and people are interested… Winery Tour / Tasting. This is about 8 minutes away from Roseland. Note: We can swap out the winery tasting for an Ice Cream run (about 10 min away) if that is more the desire of the group.
Directions: Most people just use GPS these days, but for reference, locate the Woodstock Academy in Woodstock on Rt 169. At that grass common at the academy, you will also see at intersection with Old Haul Road. Go west direction on Old Haul. In about 1/8 mile Pulpit Rock Road is a dirt road on your right. Go down Pulpit… we are the 1st house on the left. It is a very long gravel driveway (OK for old cars) and you will not see the house. Come up the driveway. Note: If you are coming from the west, your GPS will likely put you on the western side of Pulpit Rock Road. Then you will need to drive the full length of the dirt road to get to the other side (east side) of Pulpit. Suggest you drive past that end of Pulpit and look for Old Haul (west side of Old Haul) and take that to Pulpit.
Directions said another way: For GPS users, you are best served by setting your
destination to the Roseland Cottage in Woodstock (next to the
Woodstock Academy High School). That is about 2 min or less from the
house and the GPS will not make the mistake of taking you down a 2
mile dirt road (the west end of Pulpit Rock Rd) to get to our house
that is on the East end of Pulpit Rock Rd.
